If you live in any northern region of the U.S., I am sure you are aware of what most southerners call White Devil Dust.
One time, while I was pregnant with Emara, I accidently locked myself out of the house. We had JUST moved in, so I wasn’t used to the lock system yet.
I had no shoes on. Or a coat. And I was in a legit February snowstorm.
Thankfully, I had our garage code and could sit on a box top while I waited for my rescue.
I still remember the freezing sensation I felt in my feet.
Well, I have a friend who is PURPOSEFULLY sleeping an entire night outside in the Midwest late fall/early winter weather.
No, she is not crazy. She is compassionate.
She is participating in a fundraiser for one of our local homeless shelters, Rockford Rescue Mission. Side Note: The Rockford Rescue Mission has become the leading non-denominational recovery home in Northern IL. They have homeless shelters for both men and women, an education center, medical clinic, a soup kitchen, two thrift stores and a cafe. WAY TO GO!
Anyways, the goal is not to just spend a cold evening under the stars with the rest of her team gaining some perspective about how homeless people live, although I am sure that is life-changing in itself. She is also trying to raise money for the Rescue Mission.
So, what do you say? Can we skip a Starby’s today? Drop a hundo that we would have unintentionally spent at Target? Support a mission?
