Meet Tom & Jess. They live in Florida. Eat dinner every evening at 5pm. Then go immediately on an hour long walk with their dog, Olin. We like to call them old. But, we are actually kind of jealous since we live in the cold. Eat dinner when we remember. Then spend an hour debating about who is going to let the dogs outside.
All joking aside, they are our closest friends and two of the coolest people we know. They are both incredibly thoughtful, giving and supportive. If you want anyone in your corner, it would be these two. Also, they are one heck of a good time. And they are the best godparents ever. We really could go on and on about those two.
Tom and Jess have both signed up to do the 5K race in Florida. And that would have been just enough for us!
But, they decided to make a day out of it too.
When Jess told me about her and Tom’s plan for race day, I was SO impressed, SO inspired and SO thankful for her support! (Jess is a director for American Cancer Society…why would I not be surprised since this is kind of her thing!) I asked her to share a snippet. Hopefully, this will inspire you to come up with a fun way to make this Race Day memorable, too!
Tom and I are each trying to find 10 friends to commit to running the race & fundraising the $100. We are inviting anyone else as long as they know they need to come and make a donation–there are no handouts here.
Our friends are invited to come to our house at 10am EST.
We’ll have fruit, water, granola bars, etc…before the run.
I have already mapped out a 5K course throughout our neighborhood and have signs that will be put up that morning.
We’ll all start together at 11am EST. After the race is the PARTAAAAAAY.
I sent out evites with the idea of the $20 registration and $100 fundraising expectation–just ask five people for $20 over the next two months. Easy.
After the run Tom and I are having a brunch party to celebrate and thank everyone.
Baked french toast. Breakfast casserole. Parfaits. Fruit salad. Mimosas. Beer. Bloody Mary’s. You get the picture.
Also we’ll have a 50/50 (where everyone puts in $$ and half goes to the winner and half goes back to the adoption fund) and fun prizes (fastest, slowest, cutest running outfit, etc…)
The plan is to make it a fun party and raise some serious money!
if you have any great ideas that you want to share, let us know so we can feature you!
